The Solid Waste Administration Building Renovations for the City of Tallahassee (COT) consists of an addition of a new second story to a structure not originally designed to support it, and total renovation to its first floor.  More importantly, the building was renovated as a “green” building with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification, the first certified project in Tallahassee, Florida and one of the first few in the State of Florida. The renovated building will house administrative offices for the COT Solid Waste Department including an elevator, staircase, offices, conference and meeting rooms, training rooms, lockers, showers, and building support areas including area for rescue assistance. The building’s original roof structure consisted of structural concrete tees pitched to the north for water flow which had to be “lifted” six inches to obtain a level surface for the new 2nd floor. A new elevator and a single staircase were added to the building for vertical circulation and accessibility.
